Many families struggle to raise their children

Key facts about child poverty

  • In 2017, slightly less than 1 in 5 children lived in families with incomes below the federal poverty line, the lowest level since the Great Recession (2007–2009).
  • Child poverty has generally decreased since 1960, falling from 27 to 18 percent of children in 2017, although the rate has risen during the Great Recession.
  • In 2017, the proportion of children in poverty, by race/ethnicity, is highest among black and Hispanic children (29 and 25 percent, respectively, compared with 11 percent among white children).
  • In 2017, children who lived in families headed by a single mother were much more likely to be poor than their counterparts living in families headed by a married couple (41 and 8 percent, respectively).

The most surprising thing about giving is that It takes a while to figure out what your are most interested in. And what you really want to do.

Here is what I have learned, as you change, your interests and desires in philanthropy change. You need to be open to that change.

Warren buffet talks about how important failure is because it is a sign your swinging for the fences and thinking big. How important is failure, because your swinging for the fences.

I have you failed many times my philanthropic journey, where I will make contributions and they won’t be effective. The reason they are ineffectual is because the actual gift did not do anything for me, or for the target. And at the end of the day, I did not see the bang for the buck. There a lot of people doing global philanthropy, and for me, I am doing local philanthropy. because it gives me a vision for the way I want to do globally.

Super Happy Healthy kids raises money to help the cities best kids. Come celebrate with me for the benefit of this city’s kids at their annual Black Tie Gala on Monday June 24th from 6:30 to 10:30 PM.
